The Organized Computer & My Favorite Portable Back Up

If you don’t set up a file system plan from the beginning, your computer hard drive can soon become a cluttered mess. I have a system of my own, which keeps my files in an order that allows me to (at least) find them when I need them. Even so, I have to go back through every year or so, to re-organize as my interests change and my store of documents grows.

I’m currently devising a more reasonable and universal busting file system that should help you organize (or re-organize) your digital documents. That should be ready to publish here, in about a month.

In the meantime, we all know it’s smart to keep our hard drives backed up. But saying is often easier than doing. Even if you’re not good at filing things on your computer, wouldn’t it be a drag if your lost all that stuff? Yes it would be a drag. Maybe even a tragedy. So, regardless of the condition of your filing system – back up!

save computer clutterI’ve been researching a simple solution for the past 11 months and finally found, what I consider to be, the perfect computer back up system. It’s the Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive.

Why I love it and am getting one:

It will back up my entire hard drive, either as I work or on a schedule I set. That’s a nice option, because backing up to the external drive will require some time & memory – no matter how fast it is.

This external drive will always have a complete backup of the most recent copy of my files and applications.

Moving to a new computer and/or restoring my entire set up to a repaired computer (after some sort of computer catastrophe – God forbid) will be a breeze.

The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive also offers a perfect solution to what has been my biggest problem: traveling away from home and still needing to access and work on my home PC.

Here’s how: Iomega also offers a free software for its portable hard drives, called V.Clone. That software allows me to make a complete mirror image of my Windows 7 desktop PC (with my applications, files, desktop setup, everything). I can then plug the drive into my Windows Vista laptop and use it – just like I was sitting in front of the big desktop computer. When I get back home, I just plug the eGo drive back into my desktop and it syncs up everything I did on the laptop to my desktop.

Here’s a short video that explains a bit better – but I’m in love with this cool little eGo portable hard drive.
